Finding Your Correct Human Design Incarnation Cross

The Human Design Incarnation Cross on our chart is the form that our unique expression of life takes. It isn’t a destiny, since it’s not a destination. It’s more of an energy or role that we inhabit when we are living in our full expression and also as we are working our way to living in our full expression.

When I was first dissecting my chart, I noticed that when I calculated my chart, my incarnation cross was listed as Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love.

However, when I looked inside The Definitive Book of Human Design at the Incarnation Crosses for the first time, I noticed that some crosses had four versions. For example:

  • Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love 1

  • Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love 2

  • Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love 3

  • Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love 4

The numbers 1-4 represent the four Quarter of Life Themes:

1 - Initiation

2 - Civilization

3 - Duality

4 - Mutation

Additionally, there are three types of Crosses:

If your Incarnation Cross is a Right Angled Cross, you have a “Personal” Life Theme, meaning it is based on a journey you go through inwardly. Each Personal Life Theme shows up four times each year and has four possible variations (1-4).

If your Incarnation Cross is a Left Angled Cross, you have an “Interpersonal” Life Theme, meaning it is centered around lessons learned through your relationships to others. Each Interpersonal Life Theme shows up only twice each year and has 2 possible variations.

If your Incarnation Cross is a Juxtaposition Cross, you have a “Fixed” Life Theme. Fixed Life Themes stand alone with no variations, and are also quite rare.

Here is how to find which variation of your Incarnation Cross is the right one for your chart:

  • The automated way. My chart calculator does differentiate between the four variations of Incarnation Crosses that have them.

The number there is the Gate number for the Incarnation Cross. For me, the Gate is 46.

Now that I know this, if I have a book that lists the Incarnation Crosses that lists them by Gate, I will look for Gate 46. Gate 46 will have multiple crosses, however it will only have one Right Angle Cross. In this case, it shows me the Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love 3, which is the correct one!
