How to Calculate and Read Your Human Design Chart
The first time I saw my Human Design chart, I thought, “Um…no thank you!” and immediately exited the site. There was no explanation for what I was looking at, and I felt completely confused. It took many hours to decode what I was looking at, and I don’t want you to go through the same thing. So, here is how to read your Human Design Chart!
To get the most accurate chart, you’ll need your complete birth details, including:
date
location
time of birth, to the minute
Check your birth certificate or consult a relative if you don’t know your exact birth time. Some birth certificates do not provide birth times, but you may be able to get a more detailed copy from the government or hospital where you were born.
If your exact birth time is not available, you can use an approximate time (this may result in some inaccuracies with certain aspects of your chart), or you can have a birth time rectification done by an astrologer. However, if all else fails, you should be able to figure out enough about your chart that you can still transform your life!
Locating Your Type, Strategy, and Authority
Your Type, Strategy, and Authority will be the touchstones of your Human Design experiment. So, this is where we will start with your chart!

What are all those symbols?
Let’s quickly go through each aspect of the chart so you know what each symbol and shape indicates. Don’t worry about understanding what everything means right now; as you learn more, you will understand how to apply these aspects of your chart.
Which chart aspects are most useful?
Human Design goes deep. It is a science, after all. Some people devote their entire lives to studying the most detailed aspects of their chart. However, to experience massive shifts in expressing your unique magic, it is unnecessary to know every little detail about your Human Design.
Here are the aspects I’ve found to be the most useful for the thousands of Generators and MGs in our community:
Type - how our auras operate
Strategy - how we are designed to navigate the world
Authority - our built-in decision-making mechanism
Profile - our innate role
Energy centers - how our energy interacts with the people around us
Variable (Digestion, Environment, Perspective, and Motivation) - how we’re designed to eat, our ideal environment, and how we see the world
Gates and Channels - our specific quirks, gifts, and rhythms
